My why
I started my pregnancy in Birmingham city, UK and continued my journey in Germany. I laboured in silence, I gave birth in silence and I took my baby home to silence. What do I mean by silence? I could not speak the language and I didn’t know the system.
I think my passion for pregnancy and babies is evident. I missed doing all things ‘baby’ that I know I would have done if I were still living in the UK. I was lonely. I struggled. A few years later, a few completed German language courses later, my business was born The little Nestling Place. Six years later and with more growth Urban Birth Plus has evolved because;
Of my passion to continue working with babies and families, to offer nurturing support and knowledge to all parents.
Of my own experiences and struggles as a Black, first time foreign mama in a new country.
No-one should birth in fear and be left with a negative experience of what should be the most amazing, life changing experience one will go through and experience.
Of the need to help support families who have moved to a non English speaking country, facing the challenges of becoming a parent with no extended family for emotional, mental or physical support.
Connection is important, because after all, sometimes it does take a village and by coming together we aim to tackle some of that isolation and create community bonds that last a life time.
In 2025 I experienced what I preach about. I felt for the first time the ultimate power of positive touch. This experience has made me truly understand how vital touch is for the human body and the importance of a supported nervous system in both baby and parent. I look forward to sharing the power of positive touch with you.
